Hi,

Please weigh in on the grade, variety and rarity of this 1C.

I really don't want to wrongly influence any decision but I think it may be a J-4?

Finally, place an estimate on what a CCF collector would reasonably expect to fork over to acquire this little gem.

Are those protruding bubbles on the obverse face? Like casting bubbles? Going to have to wait until someone more familiar with old coppers chimes in. A reverse picture would help a lot too.

Here's a photo having greater sharpness and the max permitted # of colors:

I am limited in what I can do since these alterations originate from a photo and not from the original coin which I currently do not possess.

Is it a plain or lettered edge? Plain is J-3 Lettered is J-4 (J-5 is just a J-4 with edge die slippage.)
The Birch cent is an extremely rare piece and I wouldn't want to try and authenticate it from just images. I will say this looks like it has a better chance of being real than most pieces you see.

Assuming it is real, I think most of the detail loss on the reverse is from strike. Grade from what is struck up is probably F to VF sharpness and a Net grade due to the weakness of maybe VG 8 or 10. Value 100 - 125K

Are you looking to buy it? Did you buy it? Is it a metal detecting find? This is really interesting.

How many are even known of the 1792 Birch Cents? I've vaguely studied them and I'm sure there are not that many minted/known to exist.

I have no idea on classification, but if it's authentic I believe that 100K-150K price is legitimate.

I received these VG grade photos from an associate whose friend sent them to him.

Cross sectional views of the rim are unavailable at this time.

My involvement was simply to weigh in on authenticity and value for my contact.

Just in case anyone wants to truly be educated on the development of this rarity from the perspective of an incredible NGC MS 65 grade, checking out the comprehensive narrative near the top of this Heritage page called:

'1792 Birch Cent, Judd-4, MS65 Red and Brown The Finest Known'
http://coins.ha.com/itm/patterns/17....s#360-video

would be my suggestion.

I hope you someday fulfill your dreams of landing one in a category such as this.

I'm at VG10 Details and am highly suspect of any raw example.
I've only handled one genuine coin in my 35 years experience.
I would advise your friend to have PCGS weigh in before going any further.
