It was struck several coins before the one on coppercoins. (the die scratches on your coin are fresher and crisp. Coppercoins example they are fading) Nice find.

Quote: It was struck several coins before the one on coppercoins. (the die scratches on your coin are fresher and crisp. Is it just a difference of several coins that accounts for the change - or would it take several 100 coins? I am hoping to get some help on grading, also. I think I grade too harshly - probably from my working with EAC grading of large cents. If I have no responses here - I guess I can repost on the grading forum. I ought to know better than to ask 2 questions in the same post!

Multiple questions about the same coin in its original post IS what's expected. Splitting the same coin into sepetate subforums is frowned upon

Probably thousands. Which probably only took minutes to happen.

Quote: Splitting the same coin into sepetate subforums is frowned upon My apologies for thinking out loud about doing this! I had forgotten this was forbidden until I re-read the rules which I have agreed to follow. I was really just trying to think of a way I could get some feedback on the grade of this coin. It has become clear to me that my grading is more severe than most of those on this forum. I have been influenced by EAC grading methods and I think the corrective message to me is that modern coins are not to be graded like that! I have written down a grade for this coin and I would like to hear some other thoughts about it to compare. Any help on that would be appreciated!

One of my favorite coins that I've always gone out of my way to keep in stock.
I like it because it's a decent doubled die and RPM and reasonable in price to offer my customers that are just getting started.
I've probably bought and sold about 200-300 of these over the years -- not nearly what I've sold for other Lincoln varieties but a respectable number anyway.

In order for it to be Mint state, there must be no trace of wear and it must exhibit at least attractive mint luster. MS-63 permits noticeable detracting contact marks or minor blemishes. From your pictures, that's how I grade it.

Pete, the pleasure was all mine. I have a book called "Coin World's Making the Grade". It is a comprehensive grading guide for U.S. coins. It is complete with pictures and descriptions of all U.S. coins. I paid about $25.00 for it at my local coin shop. I strongly recommend it for any serious coin collector. It really makes grading easy.
