I searched for 1948 s/s and found a few of them listed not with the split serif do.

Never mind ... the below comments I made earlier are incorrect. As Coop points out, MM location is different.This one is listed by CONECA as RPM-004 and is shown in both John Wexler/Tom Miller's, The RPM Book, in Keven Flynn's The Authoritative Reference on Roosevelt dimes and here: http://richardsrooseveltreview.net/1948.htmThe subject coin of this thread is simply well-worn and shot at an angle making it difficult to ID.

It can't be 004 Ken. Note the locations of the mint marks are different. I once found a Mercury dime once. Really similar looking to my coin:

Coop, I think I have the same one from your picture, I thought it was just Die Deterioration. Now I have to look at it again.
