Hi folks. Is there any record of 1952-2002 P 50 cents having different Obverse and Reverse varieties. Although at first glance they look the same. There are many subtle differences. Hairstyle and the necklaces and the the inner parts of the crown on the obverses. The reverses much more distinct. top of the crown ,Larger roses above date the shape of the maple leaves . 1952 date spacing etc. heres some pics. Sorry if they are a little reflective but these are extremely mirrored coins. You thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

I think what you might be seeing is progressive wear of the working punches (used to create the working dies) and Die Deterioration. The differences in the crown on the obverse portraits certainly speak to me of this...

Canadian plated coins are known for progressive Die Deterioration...

Thanks for reply SPP. I accept that some of what I can see could be due to that. But not the fact that the 5 ob the left is squat and the 0 is round where as the 5 on the right is taller and the 0 is oval. Those are surely different design elements?

zookeeper here is a news release on your fifty cent pieces. I don't know how to attach a link so I will just copy some of it. you might want to hang on to them coins they are colloctors here is the company. All Nations Stamp & Coin that posted this comment here is a little comment they posted. There are some production flaws to watch for on the Golden Jubilee coin. We have seen several die chip varieties where the R in Regina is supplanted by a crater. There is also a G spot variety towards the top of the G in Regina in some of the coins we inspected. these words are by this company

I cannot disagree with you, with the scale of the photos. If you have the ability to take some macro photos of the features you are speaking of, there are lots of folks here that would definitely be interested in seeing them.

I have seen someone asking for this coin with a different effigy, with the queen having the smaller crown, like the other coins of 2002. Does this coin exist, because I have looked at hundreds if not thousands of these coins?

The "normal effigy" can be found only in Proof and Specimen Sets.

zookeeperz ok here is the with the chin mark and crator. this is a very difficult coin to photography. zookeeperz on the photo forum here ray and dave a lot of the members are a great source. to help one get these photos. I used a piece of charcoal art paper to lay the coin on and a piece of abs pipe just behind the coin. when you do that that camera puts the dark colour over the coin. that way it darkens the coin. so the mirror effect is covered up with the dark colour. all I do is shrink them to fit here no other editing. I don't have a clue how to use Photoshop or any other editing software so here are the pics. I believe you have the one. where she is missing the little hat that covers her head that protects her from the crown. I have bunch of rolls of these. I will find them later.
