I purchased this large cent at a warehouse auction, not coin auction for $13.00. I thought that the condition would allow me to make a little on it. I started looking at realized prices and then I noticed that the date on mine is different. The first 1 is where the 8 is on the other coins that I found. Is this a variation that I have not been able to find anything on or is it a poor quality fake?  |

I think you need to post better and larger pictures, and perhaps explain your concern more clearly.

I used the editing program on this site to get the image to this size. I will try to get a better scan at home. What I am seeing is the date is totally inside the bottom of the bust rather than having the date extend beyond the base of the bust.

Is there a lot of fake large cents in the market? About when did China start sending them over? Is there someone else other than China doing this?

No idea when they started doing it but there are lots of fake coins out there, not just large cents.

well, if it is Chinese, then the weight will certainly be off. What is the weight?

Go study them. The dates in the wrong position and 8 is basically up side down.
