I know feedback isn't mandatory but I'm just curious why a seller wouldn't leave feedback when he receives feedback first from the buyer? I bid and won an item on ebay from a "pillar of the community" member of this forum. I actually found the auction from a link on this forum and wanted to support a fellow member. I didn't "steal" the coin and payed a fair price, paying with paypal within 48 hours; I was pleased with my purchase and left positive feedback immediately upon receiving the coin, hoping the seller would also leave me feedback; he didn't. I wasn't terribly angry or upset but thought the seller lacked common courtesy. And, If given the chance, I would do something dirty to his toothbrush

He may have just forgotten...Do they have a lot of auctions up and running.?
I have been guilty in the past when five or six items have closed the same night. Sometimes one just slips through. When buying I only leave feedback once I have had a chance to look at the item this can be weeks after I have bought it. Hence I often need to prompt the sellers to return the feedback.

I personally don't leave feedback until the buyer does first. If they are satisfied with the purchase their leaving a comment finalizes the transaction in my opinion. If I leave feedback for someone right when they pay and the item gets lost or damaged....I get Neged. The buyer is more likely to try and work something out for fear of retaliation feedback...which I don't do anyways...but they don't know that

Click on the seller's "feedback left for others" score; if it's significantly lower than his "feedback received" score, then yes, he's someone who habitually neglects to leave feedback.

Oooh, I'd never do that. I'm a buyer only, so I can only imagine what it's like being a busy seller: stressing out over multiple auctions, international deliveries, non-paying bidders, having to compete with Chinese scamsters, etc etc. The last thing I'd be in the mood to cope with is someone saying, "Can I have feedback, please?".

ichirensha,

Just PM that person and politely ask him/her to leave you feedback.
Rest in Peace

I see absolutely nothing wrong with asking the seller after a reasonable amount of time (say about two weeks) to leave feedback. I explain that feedback is important to me as a buyer as I like a potential seller to have as good an idea what I am all about as I want to have an idea about them. Quite frankly I think it is a bit rude for a seller to just blow off feedback to a good buyer. I have purchased from some very big name busy sellers and they have found time to leave feedback. Mike

I buy and sell on E-BAY. At my peak I was selling say 40 items a week plus working a full time + job. A seller should find the time to complete the transaction by leaving feedback. Once feedback is left by me I delete it from my "items sold" list so I only see items which still require action by me. With feedback well over 500 and transactions over 800 my feedback left/feedback received ratio is about +10%. Sure I feel buyers should leave feedback first and I stop dealing with sellers who do not reciprocate feedback.
As a buyer once you accumulate 25-50 positive transactions I don't think people really notice the count.

Usually there's really no reason for a seller to not leave feedback once the buyer has. The exception may be if the no feedback choice is better than what the buyer really deserves.

Here's a couple scenarios, even though we don't do this and leave short "thanks" positives anyway, I understand them....

1.) A buyer sends the seller 4 different questions after the listing is over and they are all blatantly answered in the listing. "How can I pay", "Do you take personal checks", "Can I combine shipping", "Will you put 'gift' on the customs form?" ......

2.) Buyer argues with the seller after they win that they should be allowed to use Paypal because they, "swear" they're honest, or say "other seller's always take it", or "I've never had this problem", even though it's blatantly in the first paragraph in the listing that non-USA Paypal is NOT permitted.

In both of these scenarios, the buyer in my mind absolutely does not deserve a positive. They deserve at best, depending on the severity, a neutral. These scenarios have both happened to us many, many, many, many times. As I said, we will still leave a "short" positive, but I totally understand if a seller decides to leave none instead.

I'm not a seller, but as a buyer sometimes I just forget to leave feedback. If you win too many auctions and it gets pushed back to another page. I also sometimes confuse the symbol of the seller leaving feedback for me as me leaving them feedback. Send them an e-mail.

Here is the worst feedback I received. After purchasing the item I paid by paypal and received an e-mail which said Your name is joeyuk. If I have to mail this to the Uniter Kingdom (UK) you have to pay extra shipping. I said no just ship it to the New Jersey address on the payment. I left feedback, they didn't. I requested feedback

beat e-bayer in the world! Fast pay! Great Communication! A+++++++++

I also got an e-mail which stated they "ment" to type best

Thanks for the warning Dad. I try to be polite and I do e-mail all the sellers before I buy explaining it may be some weeks before I get to see my purchase hence feedback will not always be immediate. Most sellers don't seem to care much either way. I only ever prompt politely once and if nothing is forthcoming then I drop the issue. At this point my feedback is fairly high so I guess if I were to air on the side of caution I should stop prompting.. The only problem is I never was one to take advice. learning by my own mistakes hammers the message home a lot harder...

I noticed some only leave feedback once a month or something along those lines. It is not unusual to receive feedback weeks after you leave it for them.

Being only a buyer all I can say is that the most polite way of reminding me to leave feedback (that I've seen to date) is by leaving a short message on the receipt. And it is always hand written, which tells me that they think it is important enough to take the time to write it down.
