Hi, I recently bought this coin on ebay but I'm unsure if this coin is counterfeit or genuine due to reports online saying the grading company for this coin is fishy so I would like to hear the opinion of some of the members from this site.

Thanks for the help.

Honestly, I think the coin is genuine, judging by the toning, colour and surface of the coin. I don't know anything about the slabber, but for the sake of legitimacy I don't think they help. Regardless, I think your anquisition is the real deal
Rest in Peace

I agree that it appears authentic, although it is tough to tell viewed through the slab. Who is the TPG?

I'd want a better picture of the reverse to be sure, but I'm seeing good reasons to declare it not genuine.

Sure, here's another two pictures of the coin.

Vote of no confidence - this particular coin is heavily counterfeit and recently very high quality counterfeit has appeared in the market.

This is a coin that is easily worth more than 2000+ dollars in UNC condition. I would recommend you to send this to either NGC or PCGS to confirm the authenticity.

Sorry, but the new pictures make me even more confident - it's a fake. The pieces of the lowermost sunbeam do not line up like they are supposed to, the tip is too close to the "yuan" symbol and the detail in the ocean waves is wrong.

That is a VERY nice looking forgery. I need to get one and free it from its plastic coffin.

I don't have this piece. Who can provide a real piece or pictures for comparison before saying that it is fake? I just want to know more about this coin.

Bob - I think that was sold for around 800 dollars. Very expensive as a 'study piece'.

Wonghinghi - I believe a lot of major auction catalog should have records of it. This is an example: http://www.coinarchives.com/w/resul...&results=100

Thank you gxseries, I am persuaded it is fake. The Chinese characters look swollen.
