It's an 1891. More specifically, it's a VAM-3 - "Spitting Eagle" variety. I just liked how it looked, so I grabbed it. Circulated Morgans like this one are very appealing to me. I want to get the other twelve in this same condition, plus or minus. I'm not too picky. Anyway, I just wanted to share with the family.

WHAT!? Your first CC... Its party time I like it! I almost cherry picked a toned ms65 where you could barely see it under the purple. Would have been my first cherried VAM Unfortunately there was someone else who noticed it to and my max was $1300 which he exceeded.

If anybody ever says a Fine graded coin isn't nice enough you can show them this coin to prove otherwise.

Congrats on the CC. I like the look of that coin at F-15 better than a lot of much higher graded ones.

Great coin Darth.....I like it. The other CCs in the low/mid grade range shouldn't be all that difficult for you..........except for the 1885CC - finding one in a pleasing mid grade may prove to be the biggest challenge - seem to be about as scarce as hen's teeth. Plenty of uncirculated ones around, but those that got spent by the cowboys and miners..........

It is hard to believe this is your first CC dollar. It has been long overdue so congratulations for achieving this milestone! In Q. David Bowers' Red Book on Morgan dollars he states that the spitting eagle variety is actually more common than the non spitting eagle. However it is a very interesting sight to see an eagle spitting.
