What do you think? If you know this coin please refrain from posting, let this be a learning experience for the newer members and others that haven't seen it before. This one should be a good test. I will reveal the grade Wednesday evening. (not my coin, though I wish it was) EDIT: Added some larger photos "Buy the Book Before You Buy the Coin" - Aaron R. Feldman - "And read it" - Me 2013! Ok. I know what I want to say, because I know it is almost right, but I know what you mean. I will let the newer folk see if they can get this one.

That is a very nice coin, and scarce. Proof for sure - Proof 65?

I'm not so sure this is a proof; what makes everybody so certain? Unfortunately I can't offer a grade, as I'm not too experienced with this series. I will say, though, that this is one of the best looking 3 cent coins I've ever seen.

It would be nice for the owner if it were a business strike. That would put the value about 3x that of a proof issue. I'll say PR65 as well. Nice test west!

Certainly PR65 or better. Nice coin, great toning.

I see it as a proof, but would like to know if this is really so. I have an 1870 in EF or so which I bought as a regular strike. Will post that sometimes to see if other members agree. Certainly hope it is not a proof! 80 % of surviving 1870's seem to be proofs.

I love grading 3 cent pieces. They are one of my most favorite American coins to grade, period.
It's not a proof, I know that, and I swear I've seen this coin before. Therefore, I'm not going to say the grade.
