Someone flattened it squeezing it between two pieces of leather. This enlarges the coin, but makes the plating fall off. They've called that a "Texas cent." Note the outside is is not exactly rounded and the edge is thinner. This couldn't happen at the time of striking. (even the design is larger than the dies) PSD

Drew: Coins don't grow bigger outside. LOL Just squashed and the plating falls off when this happens.

So you're telling me that you can't grow money trees from US cents?

Dang it! Time to go dig up all those cents I spread across my yard.

I am curious Barry53usa; tell me: does the edge of your coin resemble this image?
Help-With-Lincoln-Cent
If so, as I suspect it does, your coin would be one that was once in a holder like the 1911 S shown below.

The big difference is that the rims on Barry's coin show little distortion on the rims, that the removed Encased Cents do have. Also the plating would have been intact. (plating falls off because of the stretching of the planchet) I don't think I've seen a Zincoln in a holder yet? Anyone else?
