That picture was taken with natural light, I will shoot a close-up and maybe start another thread for it. The coin was taken out of the capsule for the picture, as I was hoping all of the spots were just junk in there...alas, they were not.

I'm guessing whom ever was packaging THAT coin on the mint assembly line was chewing gum, eating fried pork rinds and coughing.....all at the same time!

Maybe someone knows how these golden dollar planchets are made, but it looks like the top few layers are missing in that spot. Possibly a high spot that was sanded down while polishing before striking. Just a guess, but looks the same when doing body work on a car, and sanding through a coat of primer...

Looks like the start of a rift in the space time continuum.

I opened my box of 2 sets....reminded myself I am a coin collector not an unopened box collector.

No regrets opening it at all---both sets looked great no noticeable flaws to the naked eye.

The reverse proof dollar looks totally different in person than in photos.

Do have to admit I like the silver medal the best.

I think that planchet was suppose to be for the "world leaders" Gorbachev coin.
Thats a bummer.

@gymcoachdon.......I encourage you to complain. First....We can't buy these sets, for one reason or another. Now we get coins that look like someone took a vegetable peeler to it. And if you were to send them back, some other poor sucker will wind up with with them......and you would have nothing.
