This has probably been done before, but I had a Wheat cent with some verdigris, so I got some VerdiCare and was very pleased with the results. However, the before and after pics were taken with different lighting set-ups, so I wanted to repeat the process, and take before and after pics under the same conditions to better show the results. This coin was dirty, but no real corrosion issues, but I wanted to see how it did. Step one was an acetone soak for 10 minutes per side, then some light tapping on the grunge with a toothpick, then the same 10 minutes per side with VerdiCare followed by some more light tapping with the toothpick. I took pics before, after the acetone, and after the VerdiCare. Here you go, thoughts? Obverse, before After acetone soak After VerdiCare I also have photos of reverse if anyone would like me to post them.

Nice results. And I don't know if you saw it, but I like the lamination.

Yeah, coin is still under the camera, planning to do a close-up. I will post up here.

That appears to be a die crack that's on its way to becoming a Cud. Notice that neither the acetone nor the VerdiCare did much for the coin. The problems that they address really didn't apply to your coin (although you didn't show the reverse).

Like kanga says the two treatments didn't do much for the coin. but it's good ,you didn't mess up the coin in any way. it probably was just not the right candidate for the treatments. reverse pics please.

Yes, That is why conservation was in quotes on the title, but in the previous thread, the coin appeared much darker after treatment, but in reality, I just took a more realistic picture. I did the experiment to show myself, and others if interested, that the treatment really didn't darken the coin. reverse pictures, same as above, before, after acetone, after VerdiCare.

The good news is that it doesn't appear that either application made any part of the coin discolor or cause any unnatural look associated with cleaning.

imo, the improvements are subtle, but they are there, and your coin is better off now than it was, good job.

Thanks for the great pictures. Personally, I liked it the way it was to begin with in this case.
