Going through rolls of nickels there's a lot of new Victory nickels and I'm just wondering if it's worth keeping these. I've looked on coinsandcanada and it's not worth anything right now but not sure if it's worth as a keeper. Thanks!

If they are BUish then why not? Maybe they'll be worth more soon in perfect condition.

I used to when I just began roll hunting, but I soon had a handful so I spent them since they are so common. I used those and 2002 nickels I accumulated to pay my mom's MiWay bus fare (I used quarters) and the driver was laughing at us.

Just a little unfamiliar on grading, can a circulated coin be in brilliant uncirculated condition (BU)?

Quote: Just a little unfamiliar on grading, can a circulated coin be in brilliant uncirculated condition (BU)? It seems to be quite common for BU to be used to describe coins which are in circulation but have bright colors and finish...I cannot see how it is correct, though! I also do not understand how BU can be considered a "grade"!

Well, technically no as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin is MS70 (?) or in absolutely perfect condition but sometimes the term is loosely used, especially newly minted coins. I said BUish, meaning near-perfect with maybe some hits but nothing obvious.

BU, to my understanding, is an uncirculated coin with full mint lustre and no toning.

I have 4 bank rolls I put back when they were minted. My grandkids will get to go through them some day in about 40 years or so. Maybe by then they will be worth something numismatically?

I absolutely think that they'll be worth something in probably even 10-15 years! Coin value goes up and every year. In my opinion you know, someone had to save that 1858 penny for us to see it today. So we need to save coins from our years so they'll eventually be money.

Brilliant Uncirculated is not MS-70. SlurExe is correct, BU is a non-numerical "grade" that means that the coin is uncirculated (MS-60+) and contains 95%+ original non-toned mint luster. Further, uncirculated coins can come from circulation, as grading is determined by the amount of metal that has been worn off the coin, as opposed to a true dictionary definition of a coin ceasing to be "uncirculated" if it is dispensed through the banking system or otherwise had entered "circulation".

Avg. circulated victory nickels are worth 5 cents, if you are talking about the 2004-2005 nickels.
UNC victory nickels still have little to no premium unless it is MS65+
