I am concerned that there may be a little damage on this coin. Please take a look at it and let me know what you think. Attn. the mark above and around WE on the front and two tiny spots below PLURIBUS on the back. How would you grade/value this? *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

IMO it's likely just a stain, but it could very well be a dig that has filled up with gunk. If you're considering buying it, I would get the seller to get some extra pics from an angle to shop if there is an actual depression ir not.

Thank you zxcccxz. It is a local guy who let me take a pic with my phone. I am interested in the coin, but I am having trouble grading/valuing this. I recall that it looked like a dig on the front.

Let's say you would grade it as VF-20, but with this damage. How much would that take away from it's value?

You could be right. Maybe it is a counterfeit?

Now I am thinking you are definitely right. I will discuss this with the guy this week. It's a pawn shop.

It is very likely that your coin is a counterfeit. That date looks very odd.

Thank goodness I did not get excited and buy it. I took a picture to research it a bit more. I am very glad I did. Thanks to you guys and coincommunity.com!

I have decided that this is definitely a counterfeit. It is a pretty darn good one!

Why would someone make a counterfeit that is not identical? I have heard of gold bars being drilled out, but this coin copying in which the copy is not an exact copy does not make sense...

I would go to the pawn shop and tell them it is fake, show them the thread and try to find a match for it on the black cabinet or something. Then offer $5-$10 just to keep it as a study piece, send it to a counterfeiters expert and to know you did good by keeping it from fooling others.
