From my title you can guess I'm new to collecting coins I came across this 1989 nickle and not sure what to make of this seems to me like double stamped? also still learning the lingo of coin collecting thanks in advance for any info

It looks like it has been scratched and the scratch makes it look doubled. I am going to say that is Post Mint Damage ( PMD) and worth 5 cents.

 Coin wrapper machines and or coin operated gumball machines can leave similar marks. Sometime all the way around. Thanks, Doug.

I agree post mint damage. If it was a double die it would show evidence on bottom of the lettering also. Not just the top of the lettering.

Welcome to CC! The coin has what we call PMD, Post Mint Damage. The correct term is DOUBLED DIE, not "double stamped" (not a term we use for anything).
