I'm no error expert, but it looks like some major lamination going on here.

That's a really nice lamination error. (Technically, it's a "delamination" error where layers of metal in the planchet have separated into mica-like structures.)
What's nice about yours is that it's occurred on both sides of the coin. More typically, you will see lamination errors limited to just one side.

Yes, it's really quite spectacular. I've looked through my share of nickels in my time, but never have seen anything close to this.

Just a guess, but I would say laminations like this are worth from around $3.00 to $30.00.

Why is everone going gaga over a lamination on a War Nickel? Isn't it quite common for these; what am I missing here, the date overlap area

It's quite common to affect one side of a War Nickel and not both.
