I have had seven or eight tubes of the aforementioned Jefferson nickels in my possession for several years now. The tubes are contemporary to their issue in my opinion; the plastic has yellowed and shrank so that the coins are very difficult to remove. Several of the rolls have not been tampered with.

They are kindof in the way, and I would love to find a way to get these into the hands of someone who would appreciate them more than I. ebay prices aren't looking so hot, and I don't want to break the tubes away in case they add value because of the originality factor.

Is there any reason to pursue liquidation, or should I just keep them tucked away until the right person comes along?

Sounds like a nice little set. I collect nickels but as you said prices probably aren't great due to the high cost of shipping. Assuming you are OK keeping that money tied up I'd say hold onto them or sell locally. Did you get them back in 1960?
Rest in Peace

No, they're not original to me. I used to work at a credit union, and one day they called me to the teller line to help open some nickel rolls that they couldn't get into ... I bought them all for face value and took them home. I was told that an elderly lady had brought them in after her collector husband passed away. I'm sure he was the one who bought the rolls new and stored them in the containers.

First thing I would do is put them in new tubes. Maybe a CCF contest for a few of them?

BU rolls of 1960s nickels will be very hard to make any real profit on. 1960 is a filler year for nickel collectors--extremely common, cheap, and easy to get in high grades. If a collector wants one, they are only going to want one, not a whole roll.

Personally I would open the rolls, cherry pick any full steps to keep or sell, and then either sell the rest for whatever profit you can get (your LCS might be the best option to cut down shipping costs), or donate them to the forum to be handed out to kids.

I'm with Finn: go through with loupe and look for full step or near full step nickels and keep a few of those. The rest sell.
