Spotted this in the cull bin today. Raised feature seems too regular to be due to a die crack. Note also that it impinges slightly upon the device.

Looks like part of the rim?

I wasn't perceiving it that way, but now that you point it out, I see what you mean. It does rather look as if a sliver of the rim has been peeled away. But I can't figure out exactly how that might happen.

Can you move it with a tooth pick?

Reasonable suggestion, so I tried to do so with negative results. It seems to be as firmly attached to the coin's surface as it intially looked to me to be. In any event, it stood out in the box on account of whatever this anomaly is.

It looks like VAM1E1. http://www.vamworld.com/1922-D+VAM-1E1
Looking through the '22-D listings it's safe to say the Denver mint really hammered the dies.

Another great junk bin pick LC.

Thank you. 1E1 appears to be a definitive identification. Interesting that it's judged to in fact be a sie crack. My specimen is in far better condition than the one pictured on that webpage, solid XF/AU and I think the upper end of that range is more likely.

What shocks me is that NGC and PCGS have supposedly certifed only one each, while ANACS has recorded only five. Is there rarity and/or value here that'd justify submitting it?

That's a pretty common die crack configuration with Peace dollars, even with the rim inclusion. I can think of half a dozen off the top of my head. Not the VAM, but similar cracks across issue years and mints.
