Some rare PRAISE for ebay dispute resolution process :)

We always here the horror stories of ebay deals going sideways and Sellers getting burned by disreputable buyers perpetrating scams, and ebay seller-protection stepping away to leave the seller holding the bag.

Here's a success story - I sold a nice Victoria rare variety twenty-five cent silver piece to a buyer in QC (area code G1H 5X9), ebay id demic196. Gave the buyer a heck of a deal, "Trends" value over $1000, sale price less than half of that amount.

When buyer received shipment I got communication that he was not satisfied with the coin and wanted to return it. I offer a no-hassle, no questions asked, full money refund - knew the coin was a great deal and other than loss of sale had no worries about having the coin back for re-listing in my ebay store inventory.

I was wondering though why he wanted to return coin given rarity of date / variety and got out in front of it right away with ebay return specialist (so that my concern was on record).

Long story short - get the coin back today and it had been dipped in cleaner, AND polished!!

Got a hold of ebay right away before even contacting buyer - explained situation and was given the usual runarounds that this would not be covered by ebay and that I was on the hook.

Remained calm and pleasant, (but firm in my resolve) and asked to speak to a Supervisor - after lengthy and thorough explanation (no anger or threats) Supervisor agreed that I should not have to refund the buyer, and that ebay would cover the refund.

So, moral of the story - don't give up when you are told by ebay that you are not covered - the agents / specialists have some leeway when it comes to protecting sellers from this kind of fraudulent mis-use of seller protection.

Have a Great Day!

Gilles

Congratulations on handling that situation perfectly. You did exactly what was called for without becoming angry or emotional.

Thanks for helping to keep the process fair.

Are you positive it is the same coin you shipped him. Maybe he tried the old switcheroo! I hope that ebay follows through with their promise to you. Please let us know when it is resolved. What happens to the coin now?

Good story. I have had a number of disputes with sellers over the years and must say that E-bay has always handled everything professionally.

I remember one incident when I received a dmaged printer that had just been sent loose in a much larger box, and of course it got banged around. Seller claimed he had packed it well and that I must have disguarded the pakcaging. E-bay reimbursed me after a couple of short exchanges.

That's great Gilles. I'm sure much of the success is in the nature you on your end handled the situation. Your firm and pleasant nature prevailed

Fabulous result. It really is amazing that ebay will, in effect buy the coin, give the buyer the money, and I'm assuming let you keep the coin. Way to go.

Sounds like you had a smooth process. Back in 2012 or 13 I sold a 1960s Marx space robot toy called Col. Hap Hazzard for $800 in operating condition (he walks) well after 12 days playing with it he returns it injured and limping. I told ebay and they told me to go file a police report so I did and the sheriff's office laughed me out of there calling it a civil matter. I called ebay and told them this and they wanted the stations phone number and the lady 8 talked to. I gave it to them and they told me not to worry about refunding them. I remember it was a strange thing but I went with it and for my troubles I sold it again for $500 in limping condition
