I have tried acetone on silver coins with nice success.

I have a Buffalo nickel with some green and brown encrustations on it. Would acetone work on it?

Sorry if this has been dealt with in another tread.

it won't ruin the nickel if you try it. acetone is not a miracle solution. doesn't work on certain applications.
your call, but I think your going to have to leave it in acetone at least 24 hours. don't for get to keep it submerged , or the acetone will evaporate ,leaving crude on your Buffalo.

Acetone will not hurt nickel, and nickel is subject to PVC contamination as well. However, verdigris - which acetone won't help much - is also a possibility. Try acetone/xylene first, but it may not do the job.

Yes. The product VerdiCare may be the solution.

If it were mine, acetone first, then Verdicare to work on the encrustations. It's a nice date/mint, so tread lightly.

No matter what you use on that Buffalo you will never get that red color out.
Environmental Damage.

Try the Acetone. Will not do any damage and may work well.
