Perhaps I'm a little paranoid with all of the Chinese crap Morgan's that have entered the market it the last few years, but this coin just doesn't give me happy thoughts.
I'm no expert on Morgan's, but it just feels wrong.
Perhaps someone with more experience will take the time to educate us on what is or is not right about this coin.

F-12 and it looks genuine to me.

It looks like a F-12 with aome issues.. It looks authentic, but I don't like the pitted bubbly look on the obverse, which is characteristic of cast fakes. Do you have a scale to weigh it?
Another authentication technique is to balance the coin on a finger and tap the edge with a pen, and compare the ring it makes with a known genuine coin. If it's the same, it's genuine, but if the ring is different and/or dull, it's fake.

I'll say F12 details - I'm pretty sure there's a VAM for that second "C" being low, so I'm in the genuine camp, but without conviction, as the surfaces just look really funky to me.

Thanks so much for the replies and great info. I was given an OLD aluminum tackle box full of coins by my dad's best friend/twins god father (picked it up a few days ago). Anyhow, there were two bottles labeled "Security Plastics Inc-20". The bottles look to me to be made for Morgans, Peace and Ikes-etc... Googled the co. and didn't find much. There were 20 morgans & 20 Peace. Also, the box contained an uncirculated roll of 1972 quarters in a bank roll marked Milwalkee Wi. The penny roll had terrific 60s and mostly 70s pennys. Some canadian coins, tons of old nickels and so on. I posted here about a cent on a dime planchet and will update that post soon...took it to South Bend today and was told it very well may be real, but he wasn't sure? I'm still trying to sort the rest of them out! I did take a 1940 Canadian quarter in today and was told it had definate die rotation on the reverse (way off)! Not sure when the fake morgans etc...started, but I know the coins I have are from family/friends, bank and self (cept for the ultra cameo national parks-soooo awesome-bought a set of those on ebay). BTW, finally bought a loupe today...must be getting hooked?

Quote: BTW, finally bought a loupe today...must be getting hooked? Important tool to have - I'd recommend you also invest in a digital scale, preferably weighing to the hundredth of a gram (many available at <$10 on ebay).
