These are not particularly well rendered (the hair is off, for sure) but will still percolate through the hobby via novice collectors who think they've scored at flea markets and the like. At $79 for a lot of 10, this seller is making a tidy profit, I'd think. They may well be "aged" for the purpose of subsequent transactions.

I think the buyer of these (from ebay) would have to put forth quite an effort to pass off one of these as an authentic 1794 cent, and he would end up not recovering his cost in the long run.

You might be surprised at that. I've seen a lot of obviously fake 1794 cents sell for decent money. Wear one of these down some and artificially age and "distress" it a little and I would bet they could probably easily sell them to the unknowledgeable for $100 or more each. Buy ten fakes for $79 and sell 10 "1794 large cent, I don't know much about these" for $1000. Yeah I think he'll recover his costs.

Here's the target customer

They'll look nice next to the uncirculated 1795 half. But since they're pennies they'll probably have to price them below $95

I agree with Condor. A little effort and these can be made to look old.

Note he is shipping from China.
