Hello everyone,

I've been posting a few coins I have recently inherited over the past day trying to get a gauge on the grade / value I should be looking for. That being said, in the grand scheme of things I know NOTHING about coins, aside from some research I've been doing for ~1-2 weeks since acquiring these coins.

My question is really about taking the next step. I do have a few posted on ebay with some bids. I have dealt with an individual outside of ebay through paypal. However, I have about 25 Morgan dollars, 12 Peace dollars, ~30 Walking Liberty half dollars, ~20x 1964 jfk half dollars, ~30x random Franklin half dollars, some pre-1900 small cents and some very nice gold pieces.

I can't imagine selling each piece individually and don't really want to leave it up to bidding if I'm putting together packs. Would anyone recommend sending coins out to get professional grading? I have found some coin stores around me that buy coins, has anyone had good luck with going about selling that way? Any tips, insight, things to be wary of, any information at all is very appreciated.

Thank you for your time. And if you have time to look at some coins, check out my recent topics and let me know what you think!

Rest in Peace

I would recommend you compare your coins to the photograde section of PCGS and then look at numismedia site for approximate values. http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/ http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/fmv.shtml

Once shipping and insurance are counted in, you will be at a bare minimum cost per coin of $20+, a point to consider when debating having a coin slabbed. It's not going to add value to any coin worth less than $100 or so.

Selling to a dealer means selling wholesale, because the dealer needs to profit on the coin. You'll probably get half of retail or less. Same applies to bulk selling; you lose significant value vs. individual retail when selling as a group.

Buying coins is easy. Selling them is not, and there is no way to sugarcoat that fact.

I think your best bet might be to sell them on ebay. You can do a fixed auction a.k.a a buy it now to ensure you get the price you want for your items. Depending on what kind of gold pieces you have (date, mintage, $1, $2.5,$5, $10, $20) it would be worth sending in to NGC or PCGS
