soo... I've never had any coins slabbed and have no clue how to. I looked on the NGC website for a little yesterday and it seems like you need an account that charges a yearly fee then theres a hefty fee to get a coin graded... is this accurate? is there a way for me to get just a few coins slabbed if I want without having a yearly charged account? also are there any other good companies other than NGC and PCGS that would be good to consider? not sure if I missed any questions... I know I'm asking a lot but any bits ok knowledge you can share would help and id appreciate it. thanks in advance.

Yes, both NGC and PCGS require memberships. If you are an ANA member, the NGC membership is free.

Other TPGs do not charge club fees, but also have lower reputations (whether that's really deserved is another story).

There are a couple of things ANACS does well with attributions of many more varieties than PCGS/NGC.

Beyond that, well Caveat Emptor...

I use a very simple rule of thumb when deciding which coins to encapsulate. If they will have a probable value of less than $200, I don't spend the money to "slab" them.

Of course, it takes a while to figure out grading enough to have a decent idea about what a TPG might grade a coin at. That only comes with experience, time, and making a few mistakes along the way.

My LCS has offered me the opportunity to submit coins through them for grading if I ever wanted. Check with your LCS and see if they would do the same for you.

Start with anacs. They don't charge a membership fee and are #3 aND cheaped than the top 2. I started with pcgs, the most expensive, when I didn't really know what I was doing and wasted hundreds if not more before I found ccf. So I say anacs but vet all possible submitions here on the forum before you send them in
