Let me just say I am HUGE fan of this particular coin and last years with the ANA privy for the chicago ANA show.

That said, I am very very very VERY skeptical that this coin has sold out at the dealers and I do feel a handful of dealers have a huge allocation for the show.

I also strongly feel that 2,500 less coins than last years ANA chicago privy mark are not enough to make this is sell out. I just dont buy it. Call me apathetic, cynical, skeptical, but I dont buy it. Its nice they cut the numbers down but they should have trimmed it down even more.

I suspect the show comes and goes and there will be a surplus and like other coins, they will show up for a lot less than they are going for now.

Therefore, there are only two ways I will buy this coin-

1- Either come later in the year and the prices are slashed into the 50s or less...

OR

2- I have enough data over a period of time that this coin holds up its initial mint release price and has risen on ebay, I will pay up for it.

Until then, this coin is a no go for me right now.. I will patiently wait to see where it falls. Mark my words, I will be very patient.

Gatewest is selling the 2014 ANA and WMF coins together for $99.95. I agree, I don't think the 2015 ANA coin is that hot. The Mint's sold out status is misleading. However, I will purchase one to update my collection.

@Mrpiedfort

wow I hadnt seen that.

Seeing that, I stand by what I said. This is nothing but an artificial sell out and we will see these coming on ebay and other dealers for much less.

Again, 2500 coins less than last year is NOT enough to make these coins sell out, especially in an environment where PM prices are dropping hard.

Sorry RCM.. you may get the crowd to bite with your induced "sell out" but I wont bite, I will patiently wait and find this same coin for way less than it is right now

For the collector of Silver Maple Leaf Privy coins, this ANA privy coin is a must have. For the casual collector, not so.

The last few SML privy coins have not done that well on the secondary market. There was a lot of buzz on last year's WMF privy coin but you can now find it at a substantial discount. Of course that coin had a higher mintage of 7500. Still, 5000 is still a fairly high mintage for a coin that is in a niche market.

yup7676, I agree with you about the artificial sellout. Remember the commissioned Bison and Eagle coins a couple of years ago? They almost sold out immediately and but later it turn out there was a lot of stock for them, causing a huge depression in prices later on.

Earlier, I posted a Gatewest 2-coin (2014 ANA and 2014 WMF) deal for $99.95. If you want to buy them separately, the price is $54.95. Wished I held off on those two coins.

@moneypenney

I agree with you and you have many excellent points. For those who collect this series, they are pretty much locked in in getting this coin.

As you note tho, this is a niche market and I still think 5,000 is a very big number for this coin.

I do remember those coins, the Bison and Deer, look how Silvertowne was the "exclusive" dealer and what have they done? They have slashed them almost down to 50%.

I have seen last years chicago Privy coin go for about 50ish on ebay repeatedly. I suspect this one will also go for that around the end of the year. I picked up a slabbed 69 one for about 55ish.

The WMF coin I bought at full price, from Gatewest, to only see it fall in price as well. After a couple times of watching these coins fall in price and many others I bought from other mints I said "nope no more, I will patiently wait and make a wish list and stalk everything on that wish list."

Even tho ATB 5 ounce coins from the US Mint fall in price on the secondary market after months go by and even the ones with lower mintage number from previous years are dropping due to lower prices in silver.

So to me, the lesson I have learned is be patient, watch ebay, watch the dealers, wait for many months and combining that with falling PM prices, the coins I want will come to me at a fair market price.

This Double Horse Privy Mark Maple Silver Coin is a must buy for serious privy mark maple coin collectors.

Only one seller on ebay with ridiculous selling price

Colonial Acres has the WMF privy coin for $59.99, issue $79.99.

Could see the same fate for the ANA privy, so don't be fooled by the artificial sellout. As I recalled, the RCM sold out of the WMF privy very fast too.

In regards to the double privy horse sml, it would be nice if the Mint require that all commissioned coins have a certain amount reserved for Canadian residents to purchase.

Very true.
But we are close to release and meanwhile it is "hot".
Give it couple of month and prices increase will calm down.
Like some people said - this is really long time investment, with the possible drop in the middle.

yes prices are rising without a doubt. What happens tho 6-8 months out is demand slows down after the release and they start flooding ebay with them.

Could this coin do different, maybe but I highly doubt it. I think it ends up going for the same prices as last years ANA Maple Leaf. I am compiling data and in my experience it will be months before we know.

I say this tho, not many coins are holding their value with PM prices being depressed, they all have taken some sort of drop, even if minor.

Talisman has the "Chicago Privy SML" already "discounted".

From USD 99 to USD 79. This is still more than issue, but why to give discount anyway?
