It is to give the bottom corners more support, or so I was told some twenty years ago. The link GR58 gave is for page five of the new version of the 7113 which ends with 2005. They do not list the old version of the page (pictured above). The 7113 was updated to end at 2005 when the 7114 was created, which starts with the redesigned nickel of 2006.
