I purchased this coin on ebay recently, and now have doubts about it. I'm wondering if the surfaces have been colored in the way Great Southern Coins was accused of doing. I have 14 days to return it, so if I send it off for grading, it's mine forever. Thoughts? Are these original surfaces?

If that's even close to the actual color, definitely AT'd. You clearly collect LWC - does this look like a normal brown color in hand?

Thanks coinfrog. I haven't even received it yet.
I bought it while browsing on my laptop. When I looked again on my high-res 17" monitor, I was alarmed.
It does not look natural to me. I could be imagining it all, but it seems that surfaces have been colored and stabilized with something.

He could have adjusted the color on his photos. Wait until you get the coin in your hands and see what it looks like.

I don't trust these photos. I would like to see in-hand photos.

Does not look right to me. The look reminds me of a seller (who's name escapes me at the moment) who's coins all have this same unnatural look.

If this coin doesn't look good in hand which I doubt it will ,send it right back to them for a refund. IMHO this Lincoln was cleaned and artificially retoned.

I am guessing by the photos that this coin will grade XF-45, possibly AU-50. It doesn't look natural and has been cleaned. If you paid a lot of money for it and are wanting it to match others in your collection, it's probably not a keeper. Just curious, what did the seller grade this?

All depends on what it looks like in hand.
Right now I'd call it an XF/AU. If it's a pretty chocolate brown uncleaned coin, and you are happy with the price you paid, I'd keep it.
Otherwise, send it back for a refund.

pristine2; Trust me on this. A natural colored early wheatie is not supposed to look like that. Great Southern Coins are known for pushing these inferior coins on unsuspecting buyers. the coin has obvious wear above LINCOLN'S ear and beard. wheat kernels and lines show wear. would love to know what grade they gave it.

Look OK to me, you can't trust peoples photos very often. Assuming that's a white background, looks like his white balance is off a bit. The coin has probably been lightly cleaned at some point, it's too pristine for an AU coin IMO.

It looks like it has had a light cleaning a long time ago but, has eventually turned brown over the years.

Looking at the negative feedback the seller has about selling cleaned coins, I'd say you're not going to be happy with it.
