I am usually pretty good about grading Morgans. Probably one of the easiest of all coins to grade. However with toning, it can make it difficult. Whats everyone's opinion on this one?

Pictures are sharp, but don't tell us much about the luster. This coin looks rather dull here, but I suspect it's not.

Try to throw some light on it, some reflection.

I hate to drown out the details with too much light. I think this one might be worthy of a visit to NGC. Prices are a huge swing from 62/63-65....Ive seen toners like this come back a 65 when you wouldn't expect them to reach 64 on its best day.

You did a great job presenting the photos that you did, but I agree with CoinFrog that it would be good to have a lighted shot with the coin at a slight angle to better judge the reflective quality.

Judging only from the few abrasions and bag marks, which are minimal, I'd be at MS 63 on this with the photos presented.

HOWEVER, one thing I've learned on Morgan dollars is that you really have to have GREAT pictures to get a decent idea on MS grades. NGC likes toned Morgans so you might get a bump up. As you said, there is a big price swing from 62-64. I think this is worth the $18 plus shipping to see.

I think I see some pvc damage. Suggest an overnight soak in acetone, then give it another photo op.

Ill shoot some pictures a little later if I have the time. I can see what you mean in the pictures with PVC, but it must be the lighting since its not evident whatsoever on the coin. Strange. Thanks for everyones input!

Impossible call from static photos. This is one of those coins you need in hand to make a call on the grade.

To me, the nature of the toning is suggestive of a cleaning, albeit long ago. This may disappoint if submitted.

This one may come back AU-58. Lots of small marks all around the rim on both sides. The tone is hiding too much of the surface to tell from these photos what an accurate grade would be.
