Hi

I came across this 1969s penny that caught my eye. I noticed doubling on the front and back of the penny and wanted to get your opinion. The pictures are not the best. I can keep trying if needed.

What I am seeing is Mechanical Doubling. You can learn more about it here: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/m...oubling.html

Thank you CoinMasters. So basically you would have to see
see it raised fully around the device rather than just a small portion
In different areas?

Sorry, It might take me awhile to get the hang of this

On MD, it reduces the size of the devices in certain areas. It is actually damage to the device. They come from normal dies but the die movement reduces the devices:

SA,if you have a letter on a coin it will be the same size as the same letter on another coin provided they were struck by the same die. If on striking another coin, that same die moves more than it should, it produces a letter on the coin with the same overall size, but damaged. It appears "doubled", but because it is the same overall size, you can realize it is only "damaged". This is called MD (Machine Damage or Machine Doubling). This occurs frequently and is worthless.
On the other hand, some dies were made with doubled letters and impart them on coins. These coins are called Doubled Dies. These doubled letters are larger overall. This happens less frequently than MD and entails value.
There are other forms of doubling, but for now learn this and you will be well on your way.

Strike Doubling is exceedingly common on this date while the major doubled die is rare.
