So what I was looking at here was, in my opinion, the top loop of an S over the D that curves around the top left serif of the D and back inwards. Then possibly showing the bottom serif of the S poke back out by the front left bottom of the D. Just a thought

The area NW of the mint mark looks like heavy polishing in that area that raised that area. Then center of the mint mark has received a hit. But other than that it looks normal to me. (a RPM would be raised stronger upwards)
