Thinking of buying... Is this briadstruck? Kinda looks like a die cap forming to me. Thanks for the help.

No, not broadstruck. The left outside portion appears to be a Jefferson nickel. BOTH sides of the coin pictured show lettering found on the obverse of a nickel. I cannot imagine how this would have happened at the mint.

Sorry I should have specified. I am working so was rushing to post. It is advertised as broad struck. Pic shows size compared to a nickel.so its sitting on one. I just thought the area in question is awfully pushed up for a broad strike making me think die cap.

Cannot decide if it may just be a photo illusion?

It's a broadstrike, off-center. Only way to make a dime you can drink from.

Dime on a nickel is confusing and doesn't help identify the actual error.

Oh -- a dime ON a nickel....well, that's different. I thought somebody smashed one coin into the other. I have seen these sell anywhere from $8 to $30 -- maybe there are some that are worth more. It depends upon the grade of the error coin -- and the pics here are too blurry to say for sure, but it does look scratched so I'd be a bit frugal on this one.

Im glad I missed it then. I don't know if you have tho compinsate for exchange when bidding on the bay but every bid I put in didn't meet the previous bid which was 4 dollars likes than my bid. That was my first try on the bay but not mad I missed. I'll try again at a better price.

Yeah the more I looked at it it was a bad deal. Add said uncirculated but it looked scratched up. For that price I'll need clearer pics. Does anyone know why it wouldn't accept my bid even though it was almost 5 bucks more than the winning bid? The screen was giving Me a bnot enough bid and promoting me to raise it. I should mention I am new to the bay. I see a lot of topics come up here that have made me weary of it but I decided to take the plunge.

The high bidder had a larger final bid number stored with ebay. It only bid what it needed to for him to be the high bidder, but his stored max bid was larger than you bid so ebay flagged you since you'd have been instantly outbid anyway. You can bid $1000 for a coin, but if it only takes $500 to be the leading bidder ebay won't put up more of your bid than that until somebody beats it.

That seems silly cause the coin sold for less than what I was trying to bid. Too bad for the seller

Bob -- check your ebay account and see if your info. is correct. If everything is okay -- you might want to post customer service and find out what happened. The next time you bid it might matter to you more and that's not the time to try and solve this. Good luck and happy hunting.
