I didn't realize how popular this was going to be. I've been searching rolls since just before Christmas and have already found 6 90% silver Kennedy half dollars and over 40 40% silver halves. I've noticed that the bank wrapped rolls haven't had and silver in them. I've always found my silver in the hand wrapped rolls. Have any of you had similar experiences? I've also noticed that the small town banks give the best results. All of my silver coins have been found at these. Has anyone noticed any patters or have any tips to share?

USNDoc,

Welcome to the forum.

There is a separate thread here dedicated to roll hunting (it's up to 49 pages). You might find some of the revelations interesting.

Welcome Doc.

There's a JFK specific thread here: https://goccf.com/t/22710

How many halves have you searched so far? I've found 2 40% silver in 240. Both were from a smaller bank. I have a box of 1000 coming in this week and I hope to pull some more from that.

Well, I've had awesome success with customer-wrapped rolls, but they are very hard to come by. I go to the bank, usually a different branch once a week and maybe they have a few rolls every 4th or 5th visit. Around Christmas time, I went to 6 different branches and managed to come away with several hundred dollars. But it paid off with two solid 40% silver rolls that a customer wrapped and deposited to the bank.

I can't compare to bank-wrapped rolls because I never did them before- but I have my first $1000 bank-wrapped coming next week.

From looking at the above-mentioned 49-page roll-hunting thread, it appears that a lot of half dollar hunters are getting skunked from bank-wrapped rolls, but a lot of them are finding 40% and 90% silver, proof coins, and coins not intended for circulation (NITC, like 87, 2002-present).

Several folks have mentioned having good to great luck at rural banks but my particular bank doesn't have any rural branches. (DRAT!) it is making me think about opening an account at a rural branch in my area though, that's how addicted I am to roll searching.
