Well I have been thinking about getting back into the game. For the dollar coins I think I will just buy the ones I want and not worry about getting the "whole" set. I still protest them though for the edge lettering and having them say $1 instead of ONE DOLLAR. I really do like the Statue of Liberty design on the reverse though. But now I have to figure out what exactly I do want to focus on.

I really encourge you to come back! As you know, dollar coins are like US commemoratives from the 30's: THERE ARE TOO MANY OF THEM! back (hopefully)

Only one mint and the year is easily determined by the obverse (Presidential) or reverse (Native American).

I think I'll start buying mint sets again after the current dollar coin program ends. I think those just add too much additional cost to them.

Yes stick to those dollar coins, Uncirc sets and Proof sets. That way there will me more of the coins I like available. Or you could try collecting Sporting type Cards, Lamp shades, etc. Again, more of the coins I like then available. Just kidding. Collect everything. It's fun.

Welcome back to the hobby! I am also prone to coming in and out of collecting. LOL If you are a fan of the little dollars might I suggest one of these: http://catalog.usmint.gov/american-...oins#start=1It is not a president but it is really great looking!

The edge lettering is a major turn off to the dollar coins. If it wasn't for the edge lettering I'd have them all.

It certainly affected what I collect. I already get proof sets, so it was an easy decision. I do not buy mint sets since I prefer to pull from circulation, so I had no problem forgetting about them and just go about building a date set with the proofs.

Of course they will. Adding coins is like raising taxes.

I guess I just long for the old days with annual sets that only consisted of 5-6 coins.

Those days seem like so long ago now. By the time the ATB series is done, less than half of my collecting life will have known five-six coin sets.
