No beardsley effect-----does it mean it is not a error but merely PMD?

The rims do not dovetail into the clip - it is post mint damage.

Thanks for your replies-----I myself haven't seen many 150 year old clip errors and was wondering if planchet production back then was somehow different than modern methods.

Also notice that the curvature of the clip doesn't match the coin itself. That is another indicator to look for. Definitely PMD. Thanks for sharing.

The curvature of a clip doesn't necessarily need to match the coin, during the strike the curve can get distorted. But I agree that this one is PMD.

PMD
Why even ask for our opinions if this is what your intentions are?

I assume you are posing this question to the original poster (OP)? Don't be so quick to draw conclusions. If you click on the profile link of the poster, you'll see their own ebay account - the OP in this case is not the person selling the coin....

FYI, if it was actually an error coin, the correct term is "Blakesley effect".
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

Every winter I get some sort of Beardsley effect... I like the term and will now use it!
Rest in Peace
