It's on ebay, and the seller hasn't sold anything in over a year. Does this Large cent look original? I see a few halos around the left obverse stars. Any thoughts to grade?

High AU. Those halos are leftover luster. The rest of the luster has been worn away. I would buy it.
Rest in Peace

The color doesn't look right to me. Beyond that, this (attached link)is the only completed listing that comes up so this seller has been inactive for a while. I would stay far away just in case...http://www.ebay.com/itm/1851-1C-BN-...em33a8bae945

Could be one of the so called. Bay Area counterfeits from years back. This date was extensively counterfeited and they appeared in the London England. Coin market back in the 1980s. Not saying this is one of those ,but I would be wary enough to shop elsewhere if I was buying one of these. That nice it should have been stabbed.

Let's check obverse/reverse pairing.

Normal reverse; N-11 obverse diagnostics. This is a valid die pairing for an N-11. No red flags there.

Wear on leaves, hair bun and lower curl is consistent with an AU55-AU58 coin, I'd put this one in the AU58 camp.

EAC EF45 net EF40 (very sharp coin with slight color blotchiness on obverse)

I do not see anything about this coin that would turn me away, and the price as the bid currently sits is very, very reasonable.

Also do not see anything that makes me freak out about the coins legitimacy. Probably worth more if it were a "Bay Area" counterfeit! I believe the 1851 " Bay Area" is an over 81.....

Thanks for all the help. It sold for $160, a bit too steep for me.

The shipping cost seems almost ridiculous. $5.95 to ship a large cent?

Yeah I know, but they do say it's in a PM Small Flat Rate Box. A bit of overkill imo.
