It may be the angle of the picture, but I think it is a small date.

I'm no expert, and I only have a 5x glass, but I'm almost certain that there is some doubling on both the date and mm....the point of the 9 comes to a definite point compared to the other 36 '70s's I have here. I hope I'm not just wanting it to be a smally so bad I'm seeing just what I want to though....

Going on the shape of the 9 and the bottom of the 7 being almost parallel with the bottom of the 0, I'd say small date -- and congrats if it is. I was just on ebay tonight looking for one to bid on. Impossible to find an Unc for under $50. Did you find this one roll hunting? The obverse suggests a nice looking problem free coin. .

It is a small date. Note the curl inward on the 9. The tops/bottoms are all level. (hold a straight piece of paper/credit card and you can see that) Nice find in circulation.

Yup found it roll searching! :-) I live in a small country town in north Idaho. Got in good with the tellers, so she flagged me down and told me an old lady cashed in her pennies she's had for years...several rolls had obviously been rolled up since the late 70s. Got a handful of wheats including a '37 and a 1916-S from $10....I guess living in the stix pays off for once, the tellers even go through the halves and save the silver for me. Most of the time I have to force them to take more than face value for them and call it their "tips"!

to CCF. Very nice find. Congrats. What does the reverse look like? I have only found one in all the cents I have looked through. John1

I agree on the small date. Can't tell for sure by the point of the 9 in the picture, but the top of the 7 looks level with the top of the 9 and the S MM is farther from the 9 than the large date is as seen in COOP's attached photos of the two types. Very Nice!!

At least from the angle of the pic, I have to respectfully disagree and say that it is a large date. I may be wrong have been in the past :)

Small date. Just look at coops pic. On the op's coin the serif on the 9 is horizontal not diagonal which tells me it's a small date. Unless coops pic is inaccurate it's a small date imo

I used to think there was only one die affected. But keeping tract there is more than one die that creates these:

Still staying with small date. Here is a quote from a source I found on how to tell the difference between SD, LD. "A third way to tell the difference is by looking at the word LIBERTY. In the small date the word LIBERTY is weak, especially the top of the E and Y. In the large date the word LIBERTY is struck well with no letters blending into the field." The E and the Y on this coin seem to follow the small date part of that source discussion.

The rotation of the coin in the picture is throwing me off. Its easier for me to judge the level of 1970 when the picture is straight on and not rotated.
