found this going thru cent rolls. I have a box full of small strike thrus, but everything pales in comparison to this.

I know little a bout these. Avg strike thrus have little value. does a coin like this create any value?

Yes, some. Probably no more than $10-$15 in that grade. If found in GEM, it would be worth quite a bit more.

BTW, it's a 2000 by all appearances. One year "slug lips" type.

And just for the sake of educating others, how can you tell for sure it's not a die trial strike?

Tough question, Chuck. I have read about it a long time ago so this is a guess with dim memory applied. The rim would not bee complete and have proper depth. Also, I seem to remember that the detail in the highest relief points would be weak or non-existent.

Because the ear is completely struck up, this has to be a filled die. The face, actually the entire bust would be flat and without markable detail if this were a die trial strike missing this much of the outer lettering.
