Just learned about this one over on the World Coins thread: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WORLD-COINS...4310?txnId=0Small coin between the $100 peso and 10 cash is a contemporary counterfeit French empire 10 centimes, using a date and mintmark (1810 A) that does not exist. Value is about $60.

That's a pretty good deal--usually those listings *start* at $300.
Let us know what you find!

Got a thread going over at https://goccf.com/t/242013Bought a lot of 20 ancients for "late roman bronze" price, but so far has coughed up quite a wide date range (ca. 50AD - 1600) including some much less common issues. The Theodora follis by itself seems to catalog higher than the rest of the lot combined. Apparently the seller was sincere as listing this lot as "unsearched"!

Man this thread has a lot of ancients/foreign stuff. Now I just wish there could be found deals on earlier 7070 type coinage... ;)

Buy the foreign stuff for cheap, sell it for a profit, and use that profit as a net discount on the 7070 coinage.

On rare occasions, you will find a US classic coin in world coin lots. I think I'm up to five large cents, three 2 cent pieces, one 3 cent piece, a few IHCs, a few V nickels, and a couple Shield nickels this way. Of course there were no true gems, but the price of the lot would have doubled if the denizens of the US section had seen them. That's the reason I no longer search that section. Every single listing is either a complete ripoff, or else there are a dozen other bidders that look up RedBook (or even--gasp--cointrackers.com) and put that value as their max bid. If I were to sell all of my US winnings, I would be lucky to come out $15 ahead after fees and shipping.

Couldn't resist this one, simply because I needed that 500 yen Hirohito issue. I believe it is still legal tender for just under $5 exchange rate, and the 1988 loonie of course is worth a buck. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lot-Of-40-4...1240?txnId=0Those two aside, the lot came with a 1920s Japanese 10 sen, a couple neat Indian commemoratives, and a bizarre 1940 Panama 1 1/4 cent coin (used to prevent shops from ripping you off when buying a couple items from the "4 for a nickel" section).

Well, I have gone through the lot of 256 coins. I was pleasantly surprised by the contents. About 100 have a retail value of $5-10 each and the rest are about $0.50-1.00 each. Needless to say, the seller got positive feedback.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25-Coin-Wor...1973?txnId=0Got that one in the mail today. Was bidding because seller offered combined shipping, which made this one free to ship. Happy surprise--that wheat is a 1909 VDB! E: Also worth noting that the Canadian nickels I think are both either amazingly BU, or Prooflike--not really sure how to tell. The Novia Scotia cent is also in pretty solid shape.

That reminds me, Type, but where would be the best place to sell these somewhat valuable foreign coins? I guess ebay but some I haven't seen many or any listings for yet it says they could be worth $10-30 for some I found in a garage sale lot. Just list it and see what if they get sold? The foreign stuff doesn't seem too popular with "uncommon" countries (such as Venezuela 1915 5 Centimes, 1952 UK Six Pence, etc.)

I too wonder where to sell these 'somewhat' valuable coins. A man I am helping go through his collection has albums full and while I see the values on websites, I do not see them selling on ebay at the prices quoted. I understand ebay is not the venue for some items. I would like to help this gentleman receive the best value he can for coins he has kept for over 40 years. I went to a local coin collectors society and was told they have little to no value, which is not true according to websites dedicated to foreign coins. What to do?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/World-Coins...4887?txnId=0I generally avoid these types of listing, as 99% of the time the "two silvers" are common, low grade, and tiny. In this case, it turned out to be an Israeli 1974 5 Lirot (95k mintage), a 1988 East German 10 Mark proof (350k mintage), and also a 1974 Polish 200 zloty the seller didn't know was silver. None are particularly high purity, but are nonetheless nice, large silvers. Additionally, the lot included a 1983 commemorative USSR proof ruble (Fedorov type, 33k mintage), a 1986 Swiss 5 franc, a few 2 euro coins, and of course a bunch of junk.
