I have two 1936-S nickels that seem almost flawless. Are they worth getting graded? I have been disappointed in results I have gotten back so far and am on the fence about sending any more away.

I am not as sure. These have to a 66 to be worth grading IMO. I don't know if the top one makes it. The second coin I like. What is the black stuff on them?

Go to ANACS.com and sign up.

Twice a year they offer an insider special via email deal for 2 free coin gradings. It costs you $21 for return shipping and handling. If you end up with a super high grade you win. If you don't agree with the grade you could always crack them out.

I would take a chance and get em graded. Thus far I have used PCGS for grading and I'm now going to use NGC. The reason being the majority of my graded coins are NGC. So being that I used PCGS in the past I'm going to join NGC and try their service. I'm sure I won't be disappointed.

When I send coins in, I need to put a value and that determines what service I can use. I am just guessing at the value since I don't know the grade get. Do the grading services grade "down" to your value, or just adjust your invoice if the value ends up being above the level for that service, say economy ($300 limit) or Modern ($1,000) limit? For these coin, in particular, if I guess they may be a 66 and say $250, would that keep them from grading them as a 67 worth $1600 (I am an optimist) because it is outside the level I paid for? Just asking.

Why have them graded? Are you thinking about selling them online?

They will not 'grade down' based on your declared value. They also won't insure the coins for any larger amount when handling/mailing them back.
