Hey guys, can you take a look and tell me if this 1879-S is a VAM variety? If so, which one?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm thinking about buying it, but I don't want to overpay. Thanks again.

I would stay far away from this one on eye appeal alone!

Thanks, I didn't end up getting it. I was trying to buy it at non variety prices but was hoping it might be a VAM variety. I'm just not very good at attributing them, so I was hoping someone on here might be able to help. I have 3 Morgans coming to me next week, so I'll probably post photos of those. Maybe my regular purchase turns into something cool.

Thanks again.

Razor, there is a misconception about VAMs that maybe I can correct. The study is to match all Morgan and Peace dollars to the dies and important die stages used to create them. The study began with Misters Van Allen and Mallis. It is similar to matching books to the Dewey Decimal numbering system. While most Morgan and Peace dollars can be identified by their VAM alpha numeric designation, some are coins that have never before been examined closely and documented. In the event that you have one of those, submit the coin to Leroy Van Allen and he will assign it a new VAM number. It is considered an achievement to be the discoverer of a new VAM, much the same way botanists gush over the discovery of a new type of pond scum.
Those that are bitten by the bug will study their coins for hours and try to match their coin with known VAMs. Books and web sites are readily available if you wish to pursue them.

Thanks for the info Chute72. I'm mostly into IHC's, but am toying around with some Morgans. I have a few that I just purchased and will post photos in just a few.
