I bought this coin, and it was listed as BU. The sellers photos were real bad, but I figured I would take a chance. I was thinking it was AU and hoping it would be better in hand. It is not any better in hand I don't think. I think it is AU with some slight cleaning and over dipping. What do you think? I gambled $300 which is a steal if it really was BU, but instead I am going to most likely return it assuming you guys agree with me that it is AU Details. It is also VAM 3 which is a popular VAM.

Here are my pictures.

Your instinct is correct and not worth $300. Sometimes those "take a chance" purchases can work out real nice tho. Send her back...

Agree with light cleaning based on faint diagonal hairline scratches above Liberty's cap on the obverse and above IGWT on the reverse. Luster is also pretty muted for a CC Morgan dollar with this much detail.

It looks genuine but authenticity is a real concern for Morgan dollars these days, especially the better dates. Did you check the weight and try a magnet? Maybe you don't care so much since it sounds like you will just return it.

The "spitting eagle" is a cool VAM but the value is about the same as for the ordinary variety.
