Found another error Lincoln today. 1953 with major double die cracks. I think that is the proper way to describe this. One die crack runs from back of ear to the temple. Directly above is another die crack beginning above the ear to the forehead hairline. The reverse has a die chip. What do you all think of this?

Those are interesting cracks.

Die cracks are generally not considered errors. But they are fun to find!

You coin is listed in "THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE Lincoln Cent" by Jean Cohen 1969 as Cohen Index 53-S4 in the Cracked Skulls section.

I am thinking this was one of the last coins struck by this die pair before the obverse die completely shattered into pieces!

JDR, Wow, that's quite a die crack combo. I understand that the photos are from a die pair? Do you own those or know who does? That is amazing! 2old, thank you very much for the references! This is really interesting.

Tweak, Good eye!! I did not even catch that. Yes, VDB has a long die crack right above it starting at rim and through 75% of the shoulder. I looked at the coin more carefully after that and found another right at the back of the head. You can see it in the enlarged photos. So, this is a major obverse quad die crack with minor die chip on reverse. Do you all agree?
