1953 Lincoln, Multiple Die Chips - Coin Community Forum

DmanofLV Valued Member United States 98 Posts	Posted 09/18/2015 5:14 pm My find of the day. 1953 Lincoln with multiple die chips. Obverse right wheat stalk has large upper and lower chips. On the reverse, lower portion of the wheat, you can see where it took a hit and what appears to resemble a die chip is most likely displaced metal. The upper portion may have a small chip but with all the other damage .... probably not. The 'chip' on the B is too small for me to tell what it is. The portrait's shoulder also looks damaged. As for the misplaced "I" in the motto -- I don't think that is anything unsual for coins from that decade. Keep hunting. Edited by Buddy 09/18/2015 5:43 pm Report this Post to the Staff

There are some nice examples of some of them here: http://www.lincolncentsonline.com/cuds.html The reverse has taken a few hits over the years and it is difficult to tell from the photos what is going on with the lower area of the right wheat head. The die chips you see at the right side of the wheat is positively not damage. There is a very small ident at the bottom of the die chip but there is not any metal missing from it. It is an ident and is not displaced metal. The metal you see directly above it has 90% more volume than the 10% size of the ident. It is impossible that the tiny ident would create 90% more mass in the metal above it and not to mention the die chips you see at the very top. Report this Post to the Staff
