So for the past year I've been occasionally reading "A Guide Book of Canadian Coins and Tokens" 1st Ed. by James Haxby.

And all I have to say is that this book is a great read! I purchased the hard cover book. I like the way the pages feel. I like the colour photographs. I like how the pages are indexed by colour codes at the top.

The information provided in this book is equivalent to what you would see in the Charlton, but the one thing that I like that different than the Charlton is that the price guides are pretty realistic.

Lately I've been looking to upgrade some pieces or aquire some new pieces that are in the MS 62-64 range and I went about it a few different ways..

I looked at ebay auctions. I looked at other auction houses history, I looked at Trends and I looked at this book.

And for actual prices this book was the closest in almost all cases.

Long and short if you're looking for another book to read.. I would recommend this one.

I have been flipping through it here and there for a couple years. It is definitely a favourite here as well.

I've always liked the Haxby guides - actually preferred them over the years. It's the variety listings that get me buying the Charltons.

Chequer... I totally agree and almost think that might be the niche market share.... If love the information they do each year.

Also just realized the book on the last few pages tips its hat to this very forum as a good place for reference. Just went up a few more notches in my opinion

I often take Haxby, Charlton, and CCN Trends and average them together to get some kind of coin value. Trends is usually the lowest of the three and seems to be closest to what I have been paying for Canadian coins on ebay auctions.

Nice pick up Ag! My campus will have four nearly back-to-back used book sales in two days, I'll look out for any coin catalogs (my reference is a bit outdated). Just two weeks ago I found a used copy of Striking Impressions. I like that book, very well-written.

I have it myself. It is a nice extra resource.
