I bought a huge collection of coins from an older lady where I live and got a great deal, but I got a lot of foriegn money and don't know what my best bet is where it is concerned. I don't really collect foriegn and most of it is Canadian. I don't think I want to sell it (some of it is really neat) but I can't keep all of it. I figure I will just try to pass some of it at stores, but wonder if there is a sure way to tell what is good and what isn't. Some of it is a no-brainer, but other stuff I am unsure of. Any help would be great.

You Could buy a Canadian Coin Guide or check the internet for prices or even post it up here..
See some coinage has key dates and some are rarer than others. Identify them and they may be worth something. OR you could just start a brand new collection.

Okay, thanks. I was really excited when I looked at a roll of quarters from the side (like you do with U.S. coins) and saw that they were all silver. I thought I was a millionaire...lol. Now I am told that they all look like that. The only stuff that I know should be good is the 1925 nickel and the mint sets, and I am guessing the really old stuff. I will figure it out if it kills me. Thanks for the reply.

Hi, philney.... the kid is right! Try to get a Charlton Catalogue of Canadian Coins, It will give you a lot of info.
Some of the Nickels to watch for 1925, 1926.
Anything from 1968 back has silver content, If there
were any .50 cents or silver dollars in the lot, they
could be worth quite a bit, so check them out careful
Hope this helps you some.

Yes, the Charlton catalogue would be ideal. If the catalogue is unavailable where you live, I will pick up a copy and mail it down to you (after you have 50 posts, to comply with the rules.) It should cost you about $30 ($20 for the book and $10 for shipping)
