Hi there, I've got this coin which, given the script is (I think) South East Asian I can't for the life of me identify. It's silver, possibly hammered (possibly early machine struck) smooth edge, coin alignment, 2.9cm 1 1/4 inch diameter. If anyone has any thoughts, they'd be much appreciated.

Dear Alganbagerap - as a new member I can't email you directly so I'm posting my thanks here - the item being a temple token would never have occurred to me in a hundred years, so thanks very much. The box of junk it came in also had a 1941 One Rupee coin in there, so it kinda fits into place now. Thanks again.

Hi,

It's probably not silver but just a "white metal".

there are many reproductions made of these templetokens and I think your might be one of them...
i say this with care because my knowledge is limited.

but I have done the same search because I own a coin that is most likely genuine

here is a link where they explain a small bit
and coinquest is alway on the money (pun intended)

I'm pretty sure that it is silver (I've not tested it but, after collecting coins for many years, you get a sense/feel when something is silver or not). Regarding it's status, it was in a box of stuff from the 1930s and 1940s so it's unlikely to be manufactured later than then. I see from the article that they were making reproductions in the 20th century, so it could be one dating from the first half of the century. The thing that makes me think it might be genuine is that the edge knocks round the edges look to be of antiquity and not artificially added - although, if you look at the first picture, above the heads of the two deities, there's some 'rippling'/extra metal rather than a completely smooth surface which may suggest it was inexpertly cast? And, consequently, a later issue? Although, I have to confess, my knowledge of Indian mints is non-existent.

It is not silver.
There is a fictive date at the bottom, left and right of the square.
The correct determination can be found here:
