I like that one. I have an example of the 1916 10c,another beautiful piece, although a few decades under a thick coat of varnish has left in a sorry state.

Another one I really like is Italy 50 centesimi And moving a bit north, the birth of my love for silver coins: Lativa - 5 lati; the so-called 'folk maiden' also Milda, reproduced now on 1 and 2 € coins. Also Latvia, 50 santimu 1922 EDIT: 5 Lati is from my collection, the other two are not.

Those are nice looking pieces as well. The small countries like Latvia often produce the most beautiful coins. What's the date on that 5 lati?

Love the new additions from Latvia and France. Great designs---the designers of U.S. Presidential dollars should study these for a while.

Here is a recent "beautiful" addition to my small coin collection. This coin commemorates the Tokyo Olympics and shows Mount Fuji Note the many "Emperor Chrysanthemum" or kikumon flowers within the foliage... Squire

I love the coins of French Polynesia - and they're so BIG!

I have always loved the Mexican eagle & snake emblem. It can be spectacular on a large silver coin, but still attractive on this 60s era smaller denomination (the other side aint bad either)

Just keep it modern(ish) which started out as post WWII, but now has creeped back to turn of the (previous) century.
The good news is that this allows us all kinds of Art Nouveau inspired workmanship (e.g., French Marianne) which from my point of view is indeed quite attractive.

Oops! I missed that this is a thread that started two years ago! I really liked that Japan Mt. Fuji coin, Squire! While we're on that side of the world, even aluminum can be attractive when new. Cambodia 50 sen 1959.

Thanks for your nice comment regarding my shiny "wow factor" Japanese Mount Fuji coin tdziemia Your Cambodian coin example shows that if the design on the coin is very beautiful it does not matter what material a coin is crafted from. I think it will still have a degree of "awesomeness" about it.. Squire

Your Cambodian coin example shows that if the design on the coin is very beautiful it does not matter what material a coin is crafted from. Certainly for some French colonial issues it seems that the aluminium only complements them. Lucien Bazor was quite the designer.

I just realized that this topic was raised from a two year slumber with some wonderful additions.
