I acquired this coin about a year ago and through my attempts to identify it I have been told that it is most likely Mughal Indian though the date on the coin is a bit of a mystery as it reads 0128.

The coin is about the size of a penny thought more than twice the thickness of one.

Can anyone help me:
1. Conform if the coin is indeed from Mughal India
2. What region, mint, or year the coin could have come from

@seshanno, first welcome to CCF. Second, you may find this previous CCF thread useful for making a positive attribution to your coin: http://goccf.com/t/93062

While I don't recognize your coin, it does appear Indian and could be Mughal or from an independent kingdom or princely state. Because dates don't normally begin with zero, and dots are common decorations on coins, I suggest that a more probable reading of the date is 128X, where X is worn down. If this is the case it would date the coin between AH 1280 and 1289, or AD 1863-1872. I would recommend weighing it and measuring the diameter, as recommended for all unkknown coins, and posting them here. You can also do an extended search on the Zeno database, http://search.zeno.ru to pull up photos for possible matches. Good luck to you!

They made 1/4 anna pieces starting in 1285, which seem to be around the right dimensions. So that means your options are from 1285 to 1289, but looking to the right of the 128, there looks to be an unworn dot-thing. I would be very tempted to say this coin is from 1289, since I cannot see the other possible last digits matching up with that dot, but I could very well be wrong on that. With a coin dated from 1285 to 1289, this coin would have been made from around 1869 to 1872 in the Gregorian calendar.
