Just looking for some help found with some of my coin collection. Started organizing a lot of old loose change. I came across this and to me it looks like the small crown variant but I'm no expert so I figured I'd ask. Also if anyone wants to shoot out a possible grade they would think I would love to hear it. Sorry if I didn't do the picture well enough. Edited by Talonbat 10/03/2015 9:41 pm

I dont see how it's a large crown from what I've compared to(although I'm probably just not seeing things correctly). What I think I see: the beads on the crown are smaller. The 2 in 25 is not fully covered by the crown. No dimples on the inside of the crown. The bar above the date extends to the end of the A almost if not touching the 6. Am I missing something obvious here?

I am not sure, but looks like a fold on the right to me, hard to tell with pics provided.

Talonbat if it is possible try to always shoot your coins. flat. there is another link here coin photography. if you get the chance there is a lot of valuable information. its a great link to read there is a lot of help with coin shooting. just a suggestion your images are very good. all you need to do is a little adjusting and fine tuning

Thanks for the blown up pics Houndog Bill. Helps verify my original statement of Large Crown. Thought these old eyes were deceiving me when some called it a Small Crown.

Sounds like one for the graders, the distance between the the right leaf and crown, seems a bit big, but that could be due to wear. DBM, what do you think of what appears to be a fold on the right?

There is always a fold in the right velvet of a small crown, the fold is more on the face of the velvet rather than the top as on the large crown, sometimes lighting or toning can make the fold appear more pronounced.

I took some more photos under artificial light, sunlight and the flash on my camera as well as tried to blow up the crown on each. Hope they give a better picture. Artificial Sunlight Flash Thanks for all opinions so far.

It looks small to me. I find it useful to get an earlier and later quarter and put them all side by side. It is usually then easy to tell.
