Oh how grading standards have dropped over the years. But on the bright side, all old slabs need to be cracked, either for $$$ regrades or to permanently set the coins free in pockets again.

And my 1893-cc, which I considered no higher than VG8, just made F12.

Both are badly cleaned. The first one has better details while the second one has better eye appeal. Your choice for your set.

PCGS gets it wrong yet again.

It looks like I'll be in the minority here but I like coin 2 better.

I like the blue toning (probably from an album) around the edges. I don't think it deserves to be details either. Coins that worn get hairlined naturally during their extensive times in circulation.

I actually like the first one too and I think the only reason it got detailed is the strange toning behind Liberty's head makes it too obvious the coin had some stains that were unevenly washed away.
